Free Children's Dance Lessons

A free introductory dance series will be offered at the Boys and Girls Club in Newport December 5, 12, and 21st, 2022.
Covered Topics Include

32 count introduction to Latin dance
Basic veil movement
Comparison of rhythms in traditional and pop music
Creating box drums and learning to create rhythms

Painting from Photographs

In this 4-Day workshop participants will complete a painting sourced from their personal photograph collections while learning processes for painting realistically from photographs. Covered topics include selecting quality photographs, composition choices, image transfer methods, acrylic underpainting, and glazing with oil paints for luminosity.
Classes will be held at Walters State Newport Center Campus.

Jewelry and Metalsmithing Weekend Workshop
Shand Stamper, Metals Artist and Educator
Shand Stamper is a teacher, jewelry artist and metalsmith in Paducah, Kentucky. Her work includes themes of mythology, lore, and often features her love of collections. In addition to teaching Stamper makes her production line and commission pieces in her Paducah studio. Her jewelry can be found online and in Select galleries in the south-east.
Course Description
Day One: "Finding Joy" Saturday 9am - 4pm
Learn to create your own metal findings and chain. Participants will leave with a finished charm bracelet or chain created with the topics covered in class. Techniques include hook and eye, toggle, chain making; single jump ring, s-hook, spiral, and coil style chain links. We will also cover using heat to make head pins for charms and beading, patina, and attaching charms. *If there is interest we can also discuss traditional beading techniques and finishing.
Become a Metal Maven : Sunday 9am - 4pm
Explore the possibilities of working with metal while creating your own textured charms and jewelry pieces. Begin with an introduction to sawing, drilling, stamping, and texturing then design your own charms, earrings, and pendant. Design in copper and learn to color your metal through patina. $65 per person
*The pace of this class allows for a great deal of individual guidance as well as time to lock in skills. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday you will have focused time to work on your craft.
